“不爱长城非好汉”—中外师生与威廉.林赛先生开展保护长城志愿者服务活动

Chinese and foreign teachers and students volunteered to protect the Great Wall with William Lindesay

本学期初,我校中外学生共同聆听了国际友人威廉林赛先生的讲座《我探索的长城》，这次和林赛先生的交流让同学们深受感动和震撼，同学们也迫切希望能够加入到林赛先生保护长城的队伍中。2016年3月19日，同学们的愿望得以实现，我校中外师生25人前往怀柔区九眼楼长城，和威廉林赛先生一起进行一次长城守护之旅。

At the beginning of this semester, we invited William to give a lecture to Chinese and foreign students of our school. All the students were deeply moved by William’s passion of protecting the Great Wall and eager to join him. On March 19, 2016, a team of 25 people, including teachers and students from both sections, headed to the Great Wall in Huairou District on a journey of protection.

到达怀柔西栅子村，林赛先生再次讲述了他与长城的不解之缘，呼吁大家共同守护我们全人类共同的文化遗产。林赛先生为大家准备了精心设计的环保袋，从上午九点到下午三点，师生们经历了五个多小时的徒步穿越，清理了大量长城周边的垃圾。

Once we arrived, Mr. Lindesay told us his story with Great Wall, and called on everyone to guard this cultural heritage of humanity. After that, he gave us well-designed reusable bags, and led us to climb and clear a part of wild Great Wall, from 9:00am to 3:00pm, picking up the garbage on the way.

下山后，同学们参观了林赛先生的长城学校，这里展示着往昔今日不同年代长城的照片，新老对比，长城的环境和风貌变化十分明显，这让同学们认识到长城亟待保护。志愿活动后，林赛先生将自己的著作赠送给了我校教师。

After we came back, students visited the Great Wall School of the Lindsay family. There are a lot of pictures of the Great Wall in different times. We could see the environmental and feature changes with our own eyes and realized the importance of protecting Great Wall immediately. Before we left, Mr. Lindsay gave teachers books, which were written by him.

活动结束了，但师生们对于未来参与到保护长城行动中的迫切愿望不会平息。这次活动不仅加强了我校中国部与国际部学生的交流，促进了中外学生的文化融合，还真正让我校师生走出校园，用自己的力量回馈社会。

The activity ended, but not the willing of protecting the Great Wall. It not only promoted the interaction of two sections, but also offered a chance for teachers and students to give back to our society.
