专业概况

在这里学什么？

Mathematicians and those with mathematical inclination are inherently problem solvers. Through course work and individual faculty-student work, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers the mechanism to develop and refine problem solving skills and creative thinking skills that are vitally important for the demands of the job market and society in general. The core courses in the BA program provide basic mathematical tools. Diversity in upper level course offerings, combined with one or more interdisciplinary concentrations, gives students considerable versatility on their career paths.

It is a great idea to major or minor in mathematics. People with quantitative skills find better jobs and live longer. Our department currently offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Mathematics, a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics, a Minor in Mathematics, and a Minor in Statistics. The links to the left contain information about our classes and major and minor programs.

A student must receive a grade of at least C in a course in order to receive credit toward meeting the requirements for the major.

Career choices for Math Majors

Majoring in mathematics opens up many possibilities for careers requiring quantitative expertise. Such jobs are routinely reported as being the most satisfying and desirable in the US. The American Mathematical Society has a page with many items of interest to math majors, including career options.

为来自中国的学生设计 Clear, legible photocopy of graduation certificate or diploma issued by the Ministerio de Educación and Academic transcripts indicating all subjects taken and grades obtained. Students must have completed secondary/high school or university work. English language requirement: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) – minimum score of 79 (iBT) or 550 (paper-based test); IELTS (International English Language Testing System) – minimum score of 6.5; PTE (Pearson Test of English) – minimum score of 53.
