Peace and Reconciliation Studies is the interdisciplinary examination of the conditions that make for peace, with a special emphasis on reconciliation (forgiveness) as a vital factor in the realization of peace. It also investigates the obstacles to the realization of these conditions, drawing on theories and methods from diverse disciplines to focus on what makes for the development of a just and peaceful world order. As a dramatically emerging field, Peace and Reconciliation Studies graduates will gain a firm grounding in both theory and practical skills related to peace, conflict resolution, human development, and related issues.

Careers

Graduates of the M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies in Peace and Reconciliation find careers in policy analysis, political change, conflict analysis, organizational leadership, and conflict transformation. They become prepared to work with an NGO or government agency working in areas of social conflict, assisting in peaceful community development and social change. Many go on to interesting careers in community organizing, lobbying, mediation, and foreign policy. There is an increasing demand for people trained in mediation and conflict resolution in our court systems to help adjudicate civil disputes.

More and more, countries are turning to those well versed in peace and reconciliation to rebuild after wars or insurgencies. With a Masters that focuses on Peace and Reconciliation Studies, our graduates will be prepared to answer that call.
