The Bachelors of Science in Engineering (BSE) degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME) at the University of Michigan requires students to complete 128 credit hours of courses in various categories, which include: College of Engineering (CoE) core, intellectual breadth, ME program specific courses, and general electives.

To prepare graduates for diverse careers in both mechanical engineering and related fields.

Goals

To have students graduate with outstanding problem-solving skills and knowledge of mechanical engineering, that allows them to continue their education throughout their careers and to become leaders in their fields.

Program Educational Objectives

The Mechanical Engineering Program is designed to prepare students for continued learning and successful careers in industry, government, academia and consulting. Our alumni are expected to:

Apply their engineering knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in professional engineering practice or in non-engineering fields, such as law, medicine, or business. Continue their intellectual development through, for example, graduate education or professional development courses. Embrace leadership roles in their careers.

An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering to mechanical engineering problems. An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data. An ability to design systems, components, or processes to meet desired needs. An ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems. An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility. An ability to effectively communicate via written, oral, and visual means. The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context. A recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in lifelong learning. A knowledge of contemporary issues. An ability to use modern engineering techniques, skills, and computing tools necessary for engineering practice. An ability to work professionally in either thermal or mechanical systems areas.

为来自中国的学生设计 Other English Language Requirements: MELAB (plus speaking): 85 range with section scores 80+ and 3+ in speaking; TOEFL (PBT): 600 range with section scores 57+; ECPE: Certificate with all sections at least a C; CAE or CPE: 185 with no less than 180+ in all sections (CEFR C1);PTE Academic: 68 with all sections equally strong.
