专业概况

The undergraduate program in economics is academically strong given the number of faculty holding PhD degrees from well-known universities; the quality and quantity of faculty research from nationally and internationally known schools; the various leadership positions in professional associations held by faculty; and the quality of the universities that accept our students into their graduate programs.

About the Economics Department

The Department of Economics strives to:

• Equip students with knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts of economics and business, which will help them to become responsible and successful leaders in their chosen fields
• Establish a foundation for graduate studies for students who plan to continue their education in the USA and beyond
• Prepare students who are seeking careers in public and not-for-profit sector service
• Emphasize personal guidance for students

Goal

The goal of an undergraduate economics degree is to provide students with a fundamental knowledge of the principles, theories, and concepts of economics and business which will enable them to become responsible and successful leaders in their chosen career paths.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in economics, graduates are expected to:

• Utilize graphical models, logical argument, mathematics, and written communication to explain basic market outcomes and to analyze real-world economic policy alternatives.
• Apply advanced microeconomic and macroeconomic theories to explain the behavior of individuals, businesses, and industries in market-based systems.
• Conceptualize consumers and firms as attempting to maximize some objective function subject to a feasibility constraint, and be able to understand the equalization of marginal benefits and marginal costs as optimality conditions.
• Use their economic knowledge to examine a wide array of issues that are economic, social and/or political in nature, at both the micro and macro levels.
