美国夢沃学校(上海)神话海报展提前围观!Classical traditions

我们为什么会有神话故事? 根据美国梦沃学校(上海)一个十二年级的学生所说，是因为“人类是愚蠢的，他们总是希望能够解释所有的事情。”虽然这个观点很幽默，也很夸张，但基本上是正确的;许多神话故事企图解释我们世界上的一些事。这些故事可以解释一些事情，有简单的比如花的名字，也有重要的例如太阳在空中运动的轨迹。在过去的几个月中，母语英文二的学生，通过研究著名希腊神话的遗产，阅读索福克勒斯的经典悲剧“安提戈尼”，深入探讨了这些古老的故事。

Why do we have myths? Well, according to one of MVA Shanghai’s 12th grade students, it’s because “people are stupid and want to explain everything all the time.” While this statement is humorous and exaggerated, it’s also mostly accurate; many mythological stories are attempts to explain something about our world. These stories can explore something as simple as the name of a flower, or something as important as the movement of the sun across the sky throughout the day. For the past month, students in MVA Shanghai’s English II course explored these ancient stories by researching the legacies of famous Greek myths and reading Sophocles’ classic tragedy, Antigone.

每个学生与一两个搭档合作，勤勉地**，呈现出内容丰富、吸引人的有关神话故事的海报和演讲。每个组都非常了不起，他们不仅讨论了许多源于希腊神话故事的绘画，雕塑和音乐作品，还参照了不同版本的翻译和改编。海报将在不久后在陈列柜展出，来访者可以获得学生辛勤劳动成果的**手消息。

Working with one or two partners, students worked diligently to make informative, attractive posters and engaging presentations on a myth they found appealing. Each group did a terrific job, drawing from different translations and adaptations of their stories in addition to discussing paintings, sculptures, and music inspired by the myths. The posters will soon be placed on display, so visitors will be able to see the results of our students’ hard work first-hand.

演讲结束后，学生们将注意力转移到索福克勒斯的安提戈尼上。在课堂上，学生分析了剧中的人物性格和主题思想，讨论了演绎剧本与小说之间的不同。为了对课程的古典传统单元做个总结，学生需要与同学一起表演一段安提戈尼剧本中的节选片段。每组都加入了自己具有特色的标志，*括现代音乐，服装，和一些正能量的幽默和创新。对于我来说，我永远不会忘记那个眼睛瞎掉的先知提瑞，用百度搜索来预言底比斯城的未来!

After finishing their presentations, the students in English II shifted their focus to Sophocles’ Antigone. In class, students analyzed the characters and themes of the play, and discussed the differences between interpreting a play and a novel. To wrap up the classical traditions unit, students were tasked with performing a short selection from Antigone alongside their classmates. Each group put their own unique stamp on the play, incorporating modern music, costumes, and a healthy dose of humor and creativity. I, for one, won’t ever forget the blind seer Tiresias “reading the future” of the city of Thebes by searching Baidu for a prophecy!
