专业概况

Philosophy:

To study philosophy is to appreciate the depth of questions we all face as humans and to consider some of the deepest answers that great philosophers have provided in response.

On our engaging BA Philosophy, you will gain knowledge and understanding of topics within core areas of philosophy including ethics, political philosophy, metaphysics, the philosophy of mind, epistemology and logic.

You will also study philosophy relating to the major aspects of human intellectual life, including the philosophy of art, film, literature, religion, language, the natural sciences and the social sciences.

You will explore the theories of the great philosophers, while developing and applying your own critical and logical powers to the analysis of philosophical arguments.

Taught by academic staff engaged in world-class research, you will build many skills vital for a successful career, including analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, the ability to construct arguments, to write clearly and persuasively, and to explain complex information.

Religion, Theology and Culture:

Our BA Religion, Theology and Culture allows you to explore the big questions in life, covering truth, morality, God, love and death by engaging in depth with global religions and philosophies including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism.

Modules also tackle contemporary world issues and social justice in religious cultures – from climate change to gender, poverty to racism, human rights to fundamentalism. This BA will give you the critical and theoretical tools to better understand the world we live in and to interact with lecturers who are actively engaged in projects for social and ethical change.

On this programme, you will engage closely with primary sources including religious texts, film, media and literature, working alongside scholars who are engaged with religious and social practices, committed to the public role of faith, and active in social justice and change projects, as well as inter-religious dialogue. There will be plenty of chances to hone your communication and problem-solving skills, and to learn how to work collaboratively.
