They’ll teach you the essential skills for good writing: control of language, precision, imagination and a deep understanding of the context in which you write.

During the course you’ll dive into creative forms such as fiction, poetry, drama and game narratives. You’ll gain in confidence as you explore the wide range of job options open to professionally trained writers.

Learn how to identify a target audience, prepare effective messages and select the right media channels as you develop your talent for communications.

Explore the world of social media and learn how to use your creative and digital skills to influence audiences on behalf of your clients.

Why Study Creative and Professional Writing?

If you love words and want to work with them, this is the course for you. We will help you to develop your own creative practice and distinctive voice, and in addition you will study commercial writing – in newspapers and magazines, broadcast media, and business copywriting. You'll also learn about marketing techniques, so that you can present your best face to employers and the publishing industry.

However, the Creative and Professional Writing degree also opens up opportunities to work in a variety of administrative or managerial settings, as well as in public sector roles such as teaching. For entrepreneurial students, we teach essential skills for working freelance or running a small business. This course also provides a great foundation for further study towards a professional qualification, for example in journalism, business or marketing.
