In the Master of Agricultural Sciences, you will be able to develop your knowledge of the fundamental and applied science of agriculture to contribute to a healthier world. Whether you want to work in agricultural production, agribusiness, pest and disease prevention, environmental sustainability, international development or the applied sciences, this degree can accelerate your professional development and prepare you for an impactful career.

CHOOSE FROM FIVE SPECIALISATIONS

With this degree you will choose from one of five areas of specialisation, but can also complete elective subjects from the other specialisations: The five specialisations are: Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension and Innovation, Animal Science, Crop Production and Food Sustainability.

DEVELOP ‘SOFT SKILLS’ TO PREPARE YOURSELF FOR CAREER SUCCESS

Eight of the ten top skills employers have said they seek in university graduates are ‘soft skills’ – personal attributes that help you to work well with a variety of people and in a range of situations: problem solving, teamwork, communication, adaptability, resilience, organisation, creativity and leadership.

The Master of Agricultural Sciences has been designed to help you develop the soft skills employers want. Our subjects place an emphasis on teamwork, and an internship or research project will develop your organisational skills, creativity and problem-solving ability.

Choose from one of five exciting areas of agricultural science to specialise in:

Agribusiness: The Agribusiness specialisation will provide you with knowledge of the trends and underlying influences impacting the agribusiness value chain and the global environment. It focuses on the methods and tools relevant to business decision-making in the presence of risk and uncertainty across economics, finance and management.

Agricultural Extension and Innovation: The new Agricultural Extension and Innovation specialisation will give you the knowledge to support change and innovation in farming communities, agricultural sectors and value chains, helping these groups adopt the latest science and technology and adapt to a changing environment.

Animal Science: The Animal Science specialisation is multi-disciplinary and research-oriented. You will be able to develop an understanding of the biological and social aspects of our relationship with animals, and of the impact animals have on the world. This includes animals outside the agricultural industries, such as those in zoos or sports.

Crop Production: Crop production, crop protection, soil science and land management are the basis of all agricultural production. If you wish to help to find solutions to issues in these areas, the Crop Production specialisation will help you to develop advanced knowledge in applied crop science and skills in integrating crop system concepts across multiple disciplines.

Food Sustainability: The Food Sustainability aims to develop graduates who are ready to address the challenges of creating more sustainable food systems. In this specialisation you will gain advanced knowledge of the agro-ecological and social complexity of producing and providing access to sufficient and healthy food including environmental and population demands, and the policy, economic, political and nutritional dynamics of food production, distribution and consumption.

English language requirements for Coursework degree: IELTS (academic English Only) - 6.5 overall, with written 6.5 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 577 + TWE 4.5; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 79 + (Writing 21; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 58 + no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 176 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill. English language requirements for Master of Philosophy: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.
