Course Overview

This course provides for advanced research study in the field of Management. It aims to provide aspiring managers and business specialists with key insights into research theory and practice within the management discipline. Specifically the objectives of this course are: To develop advanced research training and leading edge research practice and management theory at a professional and academic level; To provide an interdisciplinary context to research, gaining support from a variety of technical, academic and disciplinary contexts; Develop and apply key knowledge and understanding of Management theory and research practice to complex systems, both systematically and creatively, to advance and improve management theory and practice; To enhance independent and high level learning skills and personal development (critical awareness of the limits of various research techniques via taught modules and debates) so that researchers are able to work with self-direction and originality and to contribute to the management discipline.

Assessment

All taught module assessment is based upon 6000 words or equivalent. Assessment methods are designed to give students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of theoretical, applied and professional practice issues and include coursework essays, systems analysis and the design of interventions, research reports, presentations and critique.

The independent research element of the programme consists of a: 5000 word research paper (plus presentation) to be submitted to a suitable conference / journal; a 12,000 word research proposal which outlines the key issues around the research work to be undertaken and, the research thesis which will be presented as a traditional 50,000 word thesis and tested via a traditional viva voce examination.

Employability & Careers

It is expected that many graduates from this course will go on to undertake research degree programmes and also obtain senior positions within a range of businesses managers / directors.

为来自中国的学生设计 Students with a Bachelor degree from a recognised institution in China or UK OR students with a Masters degree from a recognised institution in China. Students need to have an 6.0 overall with no sub score lower than 5.5. Some courses may require a higher IELTS level.
