专业概况

A national leader in music education, the department is home to degree programs of extraordinary quality and diversity, and one of the top PhD programs in the world. The department is dedicated to providing future music educators with the necessary knowledge, skills, and insights for successful teaching and learning.

Designed for pianists or singers who wish to specialize in teaching choral or general music in elementary and secondary schools. Applicants should have two to three years of voice and piano study. Participation in choral or instrumental groups prior to application is recommended. Demonstration of performance competence in voice or piano is required for admission.

Curriculum

The Bachelor of Music in Choral Music Education requires a minimum of 130 credits: coursework is composed of 40 hours of performance and a minimum of 18 non-SMTD credits. SMTD coursework to include:

Private lessons (voice or piano) Music Education Music Theory Musicology Ensemble participation Piano Conducting Student teaching

Double-Major in Music Performance

Education students may pursue a double-major in Education and Performance. The Bachelor of Music in Performance is designed for those vocalists and instrumentalists who wish to prepare for a professional performance career.

为来自中国的学生设计 Other English Language Requirements: MELAB (plus speaking): 85 range with section scores 80+ and 3+ in speaking; TOEFL (PBT): 600 range with section scores 57+; ECPE: Certificate with all sections at least a C; CAE or CPE: 185 with no less than 180+ in all sections (CEFR C1);PTE Academic: 68 with all sections equally strong.
