专业概况

在这里学什么？

The four-year BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences program prepares students for technical positions in the drug discovery, development, and manufacturing/production areas of the pharmaceutical industry. It is also excellent preparation for graduate studies in pharmaceutical, medical, and basic sciences; pharmaceutical engineering; or professional education in pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, business, and law. Enrolled students in the BS program are not guaranteed admission to the PharmD program; graduates of the BS program are not eligible for licensure as pharmacists.

Graduates will attain basic chemistry, mathematics, biological and biochemical sciences training in UM units other than the College of Pharmacy, while College of Pharmacy courses will be taught by a multidisciplinary College of Pharmacy faculty.

Students will generally begin the BSPS degree program after completion of approximately 30 credit hours of course work consistent with the pre-pharmaceutical sciences curriculum. Interested students are invited to apply to transfer into the program during their freshman or sophomore year from any 2 or 4-year accredited institution.

The ability to integrate and apply general science, math, social science and humanities courses into a biomedical, pharmacotherapeutic, and drug discovery and development framework. Chemistry of medicines, drug delivery, and product development Knowledge of regulatory issues faced in bringing a compound to the market Lab techniques used in contemporary laboratories in the fields of drug discovery, product development, and clinical research Interdisciplinary research Contemporary issues facing pharmaceutical research and practice Ethical considerations in drug discovery, drug product development, and clinical research as well as those facing contemporary health practice Personal and professional development Career opportunities in health professions

Career Flexibility

An undergraduate degree in pharmaceutical sciences can lead to a wide range of career options.

Students have the flexibility of pursuing direct employment in the pharmaceutical industry, government, and regulatory sectors, or continue their post-baccalaureate training in research-oriented MS and PhD programs (e.g., pharmaceutical sciences, medicinal chemistry, public health, physical and occupational health, kinesiology) or professional health programs (e.g., dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine).
