A master's degree from Michigan Public Health equips students to address complex public health challenges and pursue innovative, lasting solutions to improve the health of communities. The MPH in Population and Health Sciences offers students and working professionals world-class public health training, with the flexibility of an online program.

A broad foundational curriculum will equip students to tackle complex health issues such as chronic and infectious diseases, obesity and food insecurity, health care quality and costs, climate change and environmental determinants of health, and socioeconomic inequalities and their impact on health. Students will have the opportunity to select from a series of electives for focused expertise, including:

health data analysis, environmental and occupational health sciences, health behavior and health education, maternal and child nutrition, epidemiologic methods, spatial epidemiology and modeling, environmental health and sustainability, and precision nutrition.

Graduates of Michigan Public Health are found in key positions as leaders at non-profit organizations, hospitals, insurance companies, universities, consulting and research firms, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and local and national government organizations. Whether a student plans to conduct extensive academic research, work in the field in remote parts of the world, or lead health policy at the WHO, or the CDC, this degree is designed to shape the public health leaders of the future.

Program Requirements

Students enrolled in the online MPH in Population and Health Sciences complete 42 credit hours. The program consists of core classes, a course in the concentration of population and health sciences, electives, and an applied practice and integrative experience. Students can complete the program in five semesters.

Learning Outcomes

Through the Master of Public Health in Population and Health Sciences program, you will:

Develop an understanding of an evidence-based approach to public health through the application of epidemiological methods, data collection and data analysis. Learn to address the social determinants that contribute to health disparities and health inequities in communities. Develop an understanding of the structure and function of the public health, health care, and regulatory systems that influence population health. Gain training in effective and clear written, verbal, and non-verbal communications. Acquire planning and management skills to design and implement effective public health programs and policies. Examine the multi-dimensions of the policy-making process to become effective evaluators, advocates and coalition-builders. Discover the importance of cultural competence and gain skills to become effective communicators and leaders in decision-making in a multitude of settings. Gain an understanding of the profession of public health, including its history and values, as well as the role of qualitative and quantitative methods to describe and assess population health to advance evidence-based knowledge. Synthesize skills and competencies learned throughout the program through the completion of an integrative experience and applied practice.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must complete a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association; or Complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned. Other English Language Requirements: Paper/Pencil TOEFL & TWE score of 560; MELAB score of 80.
