专业概况

在这里学什么？

The MEd degree in Community Counseling prepares professionals who are knowledgeable about cultural influences on human development and who can meet client concerns from diverse cultural perspectives. A central goal of the program is to prepare culturally sensitive practitioners who, regardless of the setting, base their practices on scholarly inquiry. Graduates of the community counseling program are prepared to serve in a wide variety of professional roles, including counseling and consultation on personal and educational issues and career development and adjustment.

Graduates of this program are eligible to apply for licensing as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Illinois upon graduation. Graduates are then subsequently eligible to apply for licensing as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois after receiving two years of post-degree supervised experience. This is the program to which persons should apply who are interested in becoming licensed for master's-level practice, regardless of whether or not they are considering doctoral education in the future.

Curriculum

MEd in Community Counseling

Completion of the MEd degree program requires 48 semester hours of graduate study focused in two major areas: (1) counseling core and (2) specialty area. This includes 700 clock hours of practicum and internship experience (taken for six semester hours of credit). Students must also take and pass one four-hour written comprehensive examination during their final semester of study. Students have five years from acceptance to complete the program.

为来自中国的学生设计 The Graduate School welcomes applications from international students who have completed a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or its equivalent. TOEFL, a minimum score of 79 on the iBT or a 550 on the written test is required. IELTS, a minimum score of 6.0 is required. PTE, a minimum score of 53 is required.
