在这里学什么？

The programme offers a thorough grounding in postgraduate-level film and is suitable both for graduates in the subject and those new to it. You spend a term studying at our Paris School of Arts and Culture, allowing you to immerse yourself in French film culture.

Overview

The MA Film programme is taught by experts in Film and seeks to engage you with the key elements that make up the diverse nature of film and moving images.

A cross-cultural, interdisciplinary programme, you spend your first term at our Canterbury campus with full access to its excellent academic and recreational facilities. In the spring term, you relocate to the Paris School of Arts and Culture where you study at the Columbia Global Center (known as Reid Hall) in a historic corner of Montparnasse. You visit Paris in the autumn term, where you meet our Paris staff and are taken on a tour of the city. We offer advice and support to help you relocate to Paris.

Teaching and assessment

Assessment is by coursework and the dissertation.

Programme aims

The programme aims to:

• develop your understanding and skills to a notably higher level of sophistication and achievement (appropriate to an Master’s level award) than would be expected at degree level, such that you leave the programme with a substantial analytic and critical understanding of film and film studies
• develop your understanding and skills to the level necessary for entry into a research programme in film
• develop your ability to think independently, argue with clarity and force, to discern areas of research interest within the field and be able to frame viable research questions
• allow you to spend your first term in Canterbury, studying modules in film, and to spend your second term in Paris developing your interest in cinema within the context of city often seen to be central to the aesthetic developments of filmmaking and critical approaches central to the history of the discipline

Careers

Arts graduates have gone on to work in a range of professions, from museum positions and teaching roles to film journalists and theatre technicians. Our graduates have found work at Universal Pictures, the London Film Festival and other arts, culture and heritage-related organisations, as well as in film production, as editorial assistants and as web designers.

为来自中国的学生设计 For entry to a Kent postgraduate degree programme (Master’s), Chinese students typically need to have completed a Bachelor Degree (Xueshi) at a recognised institution. Exact requirements will depend on the postgraduate degree you are applying for and the undergraduate degree you have studied. For programmes that require a 2:1 we usually ask for a Bachelor degree (Xueshi) from a 211 university with a final grade of 70%. For Bachelor degrees from other recognised institutions you will need to achieve a final grade of 75%. For programmes that require a 2:2 we usually ask for a Bachelor degree (Xueshi) from a 211 university with a final grade of 65%. For Bachelor degrees from other recognised institutions you will need to achieve a final grade of 70%. Applicants with relevant work experience may be considered with lower grades. Some, but not all, postgraduate programmes require your undergraduate degree to have a related major. Some postgraduate programmes may require work experience in a relevant field or at a certain level. For MBA, Students who wish to apply for a higher degree should have a good honours degree from the UK (minimum 2:2) or equivalent internationally recognised qualification. Exceptions will be considered for senior managers with more than ten years’ managerial work experience. Students need to have an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in R&W; 5.5 in S&L).
