尊敬的Sweeney先生，Yin 女士，Fieldman教授，各位老师、家长、同学们，上午好!

Distinguished Mr. Sweeney, Ms. Yin, Professor Fieldman, All the teachers, family, and classmates,Good morning!

每逢六月，校园里总是充满着收获的喜悦，但也夹杂着淡淡的离愁。在这个特别的日子里，首先祝贺同学们圆满完成高中阶段学习，顺利迈入多彩的大学生活。

Each June, the campus fills with a mixture: the joy of harvest and the sorrow of separation. On this special day, I would like to congratulate the graduates on completing their high school, and to wish them a vibrant and colorful university life.

很高兴在大家即将跨入大学、融入社会之际,作为一个家长能和同学们一起交流一下“坚持”这个话题。

On this eve of your stepping into university and society, I am very glad to share my thoughts with you as a parent, on the topic of “perseverance”.

说到“坚持”这个词，我想在座的家长都应该很有感触，我们很多家长都是各行各业中的成功人士，不管他们是做哪一行的，相信都有一个共同点，就是一定比常人更能坚持梦想，所以今天才有能力把你们送到这么好的学校来读书，接着还要出资送你们出国深造。这里，我建议同学们为你们的父母鼓鼓掌，感谢他们的坚持!

In speaking of perseverance, I imagine that the parents present may feel very emotional. Many parents here today are very successful in their fields. No matter what their jobs are, however, I believe they all have something in common—a higher than average dedication to their dreams, so that they are able to send you kids to such a good school, and then abroad for further study.

这里，我建议同学们为你们的父母鼓鼓掌，感谢他们的坚持!

Here, I suggest that you give your parents a round of loud applause, to thank them for their hard work and perseverance!

你们很幸运啊，在未来的大学生涯、人生旅途中，可以面对多元的文化，多样的生活方式，与各国度各肤色人群和睦相处，携手共进。

You are very lucky that in your future college life and life at large, you will be able to interact with many different cultures and ways of life. You will live in harmony with and collaborate with people of various nationalities and skin colors.

我也是从学生时代走来的，虽然一路顺利读到博士，但是如果说有些许遗憾的话，那就是缺了一段国外学习和生活的经历，少了海外文化的浸润和思辨，这在全球化的今天是有所不足的。

I was also once a student, and although I successfully continued through my doctorate, I feel a little regret about my missing the opportunity to study and live abroad, since in this globalized world, it is necessary for us to immerge into foreign cultures for a while and forge our critical thinking ability.

但我**的自豪是坚持了梦想。我一直坚持的梦想就是能让马路上跑的汽车穿上中国的衣裳。

But I am most proud of my dedication and perseverance towards my dream. It has always been my dream to make cars on the road wear Chinese clothing, i.e., steel plates made by and in China.

二十年前，中国所有汽车钢板几乎全部依赖进口，而现在，通过我们的努力、通过我们的坚持，中国马路上每跑的两辆车中就有一辆采用我们研发制造的钢板。我们的钢板远销海外，到了奔驰宝马的总部，到了五湖四海。这些年，我们始终坚持做好自我，是坚持让我们变不可能为可能，是坚持让我们实现了梦想!

Twenty years ago, the steel plates on cars in China were nearly all imported. Now, however, through our hard work and perseverance, one in every two cars on the road in China uses steel plates that we developed and manufactured. Our steel plates are exported overseas, to the headquarters of Mercedes Benz and BMW, and the world at large. Through the years, we have persisted in being our best selves. It was our perseverance that made the impossible possible! It was our perseverance that made our dreams come true!

你们之中很多人从小就开始接受各种训练了吧，艺术方面的，体育方面的，还有各种知识方面的。你们也一定有人曾经轻易地选择、又轻易地放弃过。那没关系，因为那时你们还没有成人，而从今天起，你们成人了。成人意味着你们已从稚嫩走向独立，从青涩走向成熟;并在逐步**勇敢承担法律赋予的权利、义务和责任。所以你们必须**坚持，不轻言放弃，并对此负责。

Many of you have undergone different trainings since you were young— in art, sports, and other various kinds of lessons. There are also certainly those of you who have made choices quickly and easily, and just as easily given them up. Growing up means that you progress from immaturity to independence, from youth and inexperience to maturity, and that as you progress you will bravely take on the lawful rights, duties, and responsibilities with which you have been entrusted. You must learn how to persevere, how to not give up, and how to bear responsibility.

人的一生，外界的诱惑很多，我们为了追求梦想，也许会错过许多东西，但是如果我们抵御不了诱惑不去坚持的话，最终我们会失去实现梦想的机会。

In life, the outside world will hold much temptation. In order to pursue our dreams, we may miss out on a lot, but if we cannot resist temptation, we may in the end miss out on realizing our dreams.

梦想是帆，坚持是船。有帆就有动力，有船才能到达彼岸。明天你们就要扬帆起航，无论你们走到哪里，始终要怀着一颗感恩的心，感恩你们的父母、感恩你们的老师、感恩你们的同学、感恩你们的母校。亲情、师生情、同学情、母校情永远是人类最纯洁的情感，永远是你们最宝贵的财富。

Dreams are the sails, and perseverance is the boat. With sails, you have the motivation, but to reach the shores, you must have a boat. Tomorrow you will set sail, but wherever you go, you must bring a grateful heart— gratitude for your parents, your teachers, your classmates, and your alma mater. The love we hold for our family, our teachers, our classmates, and our alma mater is ultimately the deepest love of humanity, and here you will find your most precious treasures.
