专业概况

在这里学什么？

The major in Data Science has an emphasis on statistics and computer science. It provides a strong foundation in the statistical aspects of data analysis (data collection, data mining, modelling and inference), as well as the principles of computer science (algorithms, data structures, data management and machine learning).The major is designed to give students an intellectual understanding of how to integrate and apply statistical and computing principles to solve large scale, real-world data science problems. It is suitable for students interested in a career in government or industry or who wish to pursue specialised graduate study.

Over the past decade there has been an explosion in the amount of data captured from mobile phones, the internet, sensors and instruments. Capturing this data is big business, but how do we make sense of it all?

That’s where you come in.

Learn to integrate and apply statistical and computational principles to solve real-world problems with large-scale data science, and set yourself up for the career of the future.

中国学生入学要求

为来自中国的学生设计 To be eligible for entry to an undergraduate degree you must fulfill all of the following requirements: Complete the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or an overseas qualification equivalent to Australian Year 12. English language requirements: TOEFL - Paper based test - a score of 577 or more including a score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English. Internet based test - a score of 79 and scores of: Writing: 21, Speaking: 18, Reading: 13, Listening 13. IELTS (Academic) - an overall band score of 6.5 or more in the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no bands less than 6.0. Pearson Test of English (Academic) - an overall score of between 58-64 inclusive and achieve no PTE communicative skills score below 50. Cambridge English: Advanced/Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) - A Cambridge English Score of 176 with no skill below 169.
