Map the world

Are you interested in how online maps will revolutionize the world? Explore the world of satellite imagery, online maps and geographical information systems with USQ’s Bachelor of Spatial Science (Honours) (Geographic Information Systems). Your studies will give you in-depth knowledge and skills in geographical data, programming, and remote sensing. In addition, you can choose a research project in your fourth year to investigate specialist geographical information systems topics.

You can choose to study online or enjoy the USQ on-campus experience.

Why study Geographic Information Systems?

Geographic information systems specialists use satellite remote sensors and geo tags to integrate information for online mapping applications such as Google Earth, Google Maps and Bing Maps. Spatial scientists were able to assist the people of Haiti after the 2010 Haiti earthquakes by using crowd sourcing information as well as satellites in producing new maps of the country. The spatial scientists mapped Red Cross centers, hospitals and housing for displaced people.

Professional accreditation

You will eligible to apply for membership with the Surveying and Spatial Science Institute of Australia when you graduate from your Geographic Information Systems degree.

Career outcomes

As a Geographic Information Systems graduate, you will be able to discover careers as a Geographical Information Systems Officer or Spatial Scientist in transport, primary industries, environment and online mapping sectors.

为来自中国的学生设计 Students must have completed Senior High School Certificate with 70% or equivalent. Applications are based on comparisons with Australian Year 12 level examinations. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic only) score of 6.0 (or better) (no component lower than 5.5); TOEFL (paper based) score of 550 (or better) (with a minimum Test of Written English Score of TWE 4.5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) score of 213 (or better) (with essay rating of at least 4.5); TOEFL (internet based) score of 80 (or better) (with 19 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) score of 50 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 50); Cambridge English: First (FCE)/ B2 First with a score of 169 or above. No less than 162 in each skill.
