Explore pathology and biomedicine

Find out how blood groups are determined and what malarial parasites or leukaemia look like under the microscope when you study USQ’s Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science. Graduates have work-ready skills in transfusion science, microbiology, haematology, histopathology and clinical biochemistry for a career as a medical laboratory scientist. USQ’s Medical Laboratory Science degree includes 65 days of clinical placement where you will gain hands-on pathology experience in a laboratory.

Medical laboratory scientists perform analyses on blood and other body fluids and tissues to provide information that is vital in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human disease. You can choose to study your degree online or enjoy an on-campus experience.

Professional accreditation

You will be eligible to apply for membership to professional organisations including the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists, Australian Society for Microbiology, Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Australian Society for Medical Research.

Career outcomes

The Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science prepares graduates for employment in private and hospital pathology laboratories, medical research institutions, blood banks and forensic science laboratories.

为来自中国的学生设计 Students must have completed Senior High School Certificate with 70% or equivalent. Applications are based on comparisons with Australian Year 12 level examinations. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic only) score of 6.0 (or better) (no component lower than 5.5); TOEFL (paper based) score of 550 (or better) (with a minimum Test of Written English Score of TWE 4.5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) score of 213 (or better) (with essay rating of at least 4.5); TOEFL (internet based) score of 80 (or better) (with 19 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) score of 50 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 50); Cambridge English: First (FCE)/ B2 First with a score of 169 or above. No less than 162 in each skill.
