If a desk job is not the thing for you, then the physical, outdoors nature of surveying is probably a better fit. You’ll be equipped with up to date knowledge of new technologies, including satellite based Global Positioning Systems and Geographic Information and have the practical skills to work in a range of surveying projects including land development and mining.

Your studies will include Queensland or New South Wales cadastral surveying or both if you like.

Professional accreditation

The Bachelor of Spatial Science Technology program is accredited by the Surveyors Board of Queensland, and is recognised throughout Australia and New Zealand. After some experience working in the field, you will become eligible for registration as a graduate surveyor with the Queensland Surveyors Board and registration or licensing as a professional mining surveyor with the Surveyors Boards of Queensland and New South Wales. You will also become eligible for membership with the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute Australia.

Career outcomes

When you graduate from your Bachelor of Spatial Science Technology, you will have the opportunity to work as a Surveying Technologist, Mine Surveyor, and Supervising Engineering Surveyor and, with a bit of experience under your belt, as a Manager of Survey Operations in the Commonwealth, State and Local Government and with a plethora of large construction organisations.

English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic only) score of 6.0 (or better) (no component lower than 5.5); TOEFL (paper based) score of 550 (or better) (with a minimum Test of Written English Score of TWE 4.5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) score of 213 (or better) (with essay rating of at least 4.5); TOEFL (internet based) score of 80 (or better) (with 19 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) score of 50 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 50); Cambridge English: First (FCE)/ B2 First with a score of 169 or above. No less than 162 in each skill.
