While stories from different countries and cultures all have their own unique traits, some themes are universal: love, ambition, betrayal, and jealousy. William Shakespeare’s tragic play, "Othello," focuses on the damage caused by that last, horrible feeling: jealousy.

"Othello" tells the story of a military leader who is tricked into believing his wife is unfaithful. While the themes of the story are familiar to modern readers, the language of "Othello" can make it extremely hard to understand. Shakespeare’s English is quite different from the language we speak in 2015.

《奥赛罗》这一故事的主人公是一名深陷骗局误以为妻子不忠的军队统领。虽然故事的主题是当代读者所熟悉的，但是《奥赛罗》文本语言却极难理解。莎士比亚时代的英语与我们当下2015年所使用的英语已经截然不同了。

The sixteen students in English I have been working diligently to understand the dark, twisted story of "Othello." While the language can make this work difficult, they’re getting a good sense for each character’s personality and the motivations behind their actions. Even though title character is undoubtedly the hero of the play, many students claim the villain, Iago, is their favorite character. "He is ambitious," says Rosevil Huang (11th grade), " and achieves his goals using his intelligence." Others prefer the play’s strong female characters. " I think Emilia is simple and innocent," says Michelle Xu (12thgrade). " When she learns the truth about Iago, she tries her best to save her friend, even though it means betraying her husband."

Many students are enjoying the play, despite the difficulty, and their ability to read difficult material in English is getting better and better every day! At the end of the month, students will turn in essays and projects on "Othello" and I can’t wait to see what they create!

For anyone interested in reading Shakespeare, there are many different versions of his stories available both in bookstores and on the internet. I would highly recommend the "Folger Library" editions, since they come with notes on Shakespeare’s vocabulary, making the plays much easier to read, but still a great challenge.

对于每一个喜爱阅读莎士比亚的读者来说，在书店和网上都有许多不同版本的故事。我非常推荐"Folger Library"这个版本，因为虽然莎士比亚对于读者来说是一个挑战，但这个版本配有词汇解析，从而使得故事更容易阅读和理解。
