专业概况

If you have a passion for supporting those with mental health conditions, then our Master of Counseling (Mental Health) is for you. As part of your studies, you will develop your expertise in topics including mental health conditions in society, their aetiology, evidence-based treatment approaches, assessment models and psychopharmacology.

The Master of Counseling contains four units (two courses) of research into issues that are relevant to the counseling field. You will nominate your preferred research topic from a list of available projects reflecting the research expertise of USQ’s academic staff.

While study is mainly external, you will be required to attend mandatory residential schools at USQ Ipswich campus associated with four designated courses to meet the required number of hours of face-to-face instruction and ensure you have the best possible skills preparation.

Professional accreditation

Master of Counselling (Mental Health Counselling) is designed to meet the PACFA Mental Health Practitioner Competencies. This qualification may assist Clinical Members of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) who are applying for registration as mental health practitioners.

Master of Counselling is accredited by the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and the Australian Counselling Association (ACA).

Other majors

Other specialisations for the Master of Counselling include: Advanced Practice, Alcohol and Drug Studies, Child, Youth and Family Therapy, and Foundations of Practice.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must have Australian university three or four-year Bachelor degree in an approved discipline, or equivalent. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic only) score of 6.5 (or better)(no component lower than 6.0); TOEFL (paper based) score of 570 (with a minimum Test of Written English score TWE 5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) score of 230 (with an essay rating of at least 5); TOEFL (internet based) score of 90 (or better) (with 20 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) score of 58 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 58); Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)/ C1 Advanced or Proficiency (CPE)/C2 Proficiency with a score of 176 or above. No less than 169 in each skill.
